Notes

This ms. penned by Boccaccio contains the Chigi form of RVF. In his Latin poem ‘Ytalie iam certus honos cui tempora lauro’, Boccaccio glorifies the role of vernacular and celebrates Dante’s life and poem, providing a sort of idealised portrait of the author of the Comedia. Boccaccio’s aim is to invite Petrarch to join him in praising Dante’s literary work.

The same Boccaccio inserts some marginal variant readings (fol. 52v) and corrections (34v). The ms. also contains some minor notes by later possessors, among whom is Iacopo Corbinelli.
